The new http://Ask.com search engine, minus Jeeves the butler, has a simple home page design along the lines of Google, with an unadorned list of major options along the right side. That list is headlined ‘Search Tools’ and includes:
* Web
* Images
* News
* Maps & Directions
* Local
* Weather
* Encyclopedia
* Ask for Kids
* Dictionary
* Blogs & Feeds
The main search feature (Web) turns up the usual list of keyword-inspired responses. An innovative touch in this section provides suggested phrases (clickable) to either narrow or expand your search. That’s an impressive concept, if it works well. It is all too easy to be led into the wilderness with search results; Ask is offering some tools to help short circuit that problem. The image section is similar to other search engines.
The News section shows signs of being a shallow concoction, in need of a full time editorial staff and perhaps some original content. For example, under world news there are three headlines that are nearly identical from three different news feeds – Reuters, CBS and MSNBC. The notion of defining a news story as “found” is a little disconcerting. As is problematic with many similar news searches, a click on one story originating from the Los Angeles Times led to a page demanding that you register as an L.A. Times subscriber (free) in order to read the story. Though frustrating, this can’t be entirely laid at the feet of http://Ask.com.
Their Local search is a well done and convenient feature. Enter a product or service (e.g. “tires”) and a zip code into a search bar, and Ask will bring up a list of local businesses that provide the product, addresses, phone numbers, websites if available, and a map to the location. Also included is an estimate of the distance between your zip code and the business establishment.
The Encyclopedia button will take you either to Wikipedia, or to a standard Ask search response, or both: the search results headed by a Wikipedia listing. Like the News page, this feature is a cobbled together approach to a service prominently displayed on Ask’s home page.
Ask for Kids is a well executed feature, although its news resources button takes you (or your child) to a menu of other sources, such as Yahooligan News, Time for Kids and CNN for Students. There is a search bar on the kid’s page that seems to work well. A random search for “dinosaurs” brought up referrals and links to several educational pages on dinosaurs and a drop down menu of dinosaurs by species inviting further research. A well designed feature.
Entering a term for search on the Dictionary page gets you an actual dictionary definition of the word at the top, followed by a standard list of search responses. If the definition feature is thorough, this feature functions just as well as going to an online dictionary such as Merriam Webster. The Dictionary option is a new and positive addition to search page design.
Their Weather button was baffled by my zip code, showing no returns. However the search results below listed a response to the zip code on http://weather.com. If Ask intends to offer a weather service, it should be as effective as the sites that come up on its search mechanism.
The Map service offers street, aerial and regional maps, which is a nice selection. However a random entry of my zip code brought up a map of a location in Poland. I’ve had this problem before with Google, so Ask may be getting their address data from similar sources. You have the option of entering two locations and asking for a map and driving instructions, as you would on other major search engines.
Overall, http://Ask.com is a standard search engine with some new features, some of which work well and some of which need further refinement.

He left his fortune to the city of Geneva on condition that he was place in a replica of Veronas Scaligeri Masusoleum.
The famous flower clock is in the English garden and it is a reflection of Geneva s preoccupation with watch making. The dial of the clock has 6500 flower and are update several times a year. Geneva is a world leader in the watch industry dating back to the 1600 centaury with top brand watch markers found in the city including Swatch, Omega and Piaget.
The largest out door flea market in Geneva is Plaine de Plainpalais where locals go to sell their often valuable junk.
The old town is alleyways filled with boutiques cafes and historical landmarks. Bourg de Four is a former roman market place and the oldest public square in Geneva.
For 10 days in the summer the Fetes de Geneve is the highlight with concerts variety shows carnival rides and parades along the shore of the lake. Firework shows every night and the festival finale is the Techno Parade where each float have costumed dancers.
The United Nations in Geneva is the biggest United Nation duty station outside the head quarters in New York with 1600 staff
If you want to go shopping in Geneva your best place is Rue de la Confederation. This street is one of the main pedestrian streets in the city where all the shops boutiques and stores are. From clothes, chocolate, watches, music you will find everything here.
Geneva is definitely not a cheap city. Everything is expensive. You can get a good deal on your Swiss army knife cuckoo clock and items with cow patterns on them.
The VAT rate in Switzerland is 7.6 % and is included in the sales price.

Even though Disney has produced myriad movies, it is more popular for its animated ones. After starting the animated journey with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in the winter of 1937, Disney movies have not looked back. After a certain age, kids grow out of Sesame Street, Tellytubbies and BooBaahs. The great thing about these movies, which has probably led to the huge popularity of the Disney movies, is the fact that they appeal to adults and children alike. A mother does not mind sitting through a Disney movie with her child but an episode of Tellytubbies can be wearisome.
To the uninitiated, it may be a surprise that each Disney movie comes accompanied with a Disney movie book. These books are published under the Mouse Works banner and contain a simple version of the story. This can help in encouraging children to not only see the Disney movies but also to read books, which hopefully will extend to other forms of reading at some time.
Though the company is proud of all its Disney movie productions, some of them have attained the stature of classics based on their popularity. Abound with simple, yet meaningful songs these Disney movies can expose the child to emotions, morals and ways of the world while telling a story.
Toddlers seem to enjoy the light evilness of some of the characters like the witch in Snow White and Cruella De Vil in the 101 Dalmations. Alternately, some of the most endearing characters that Disney movies have created are Tramp in The Lady and the Tramp and the Beast in Beauty and the Beast. But most of the leading characters in Disney movies inspire awe and amazement aided by the color, grandeur and dazzle.
Some of the Disney movies that have become all time favorites of most kids are The Lion King, Toy Story, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Jungle Book, The little Mermaid, Sleeping Beauty, Lady and the Tramp, Cinderella and of course Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Some of the less known but equally enticing Disney movies are the sequels to the Lion King, Dumbo, Lilo and Stitch, Pooh and Kim Possible series.
In spite of the high levels of endearment that the Disney movies enjoy among most people, there are rumors galore about how there are countless hidden references to perverted things in the animated movies. The most known references are made to the tower on the cover of The Little Mermaid that resembles the male genitalia, the apparent erection of the priest in the wedding scene of the same movie and the dust taking the form of the word sex in The Lion King.
Hearsay has it that Donald Duck has used vulgar words umpteen times during angry outbreaks. Some opine that these subtle references have become a tradition at the Disney studios. This tradition started due to the fact that Walt Disney did not assign relevant credits to the creative animators. These animators, then, took to including hidden codes in the animation scenes to get back. One such example is that of the shorts that Goofy wears.
If you look close enough, you will probably see names of artists written on these shorts. Though the given instance seems possible, the inclusion of debauchery in the animated Disney movies is debatable and it remains a question as to whether it is a fact or the Rorschach effect.

After you have acquired your boots and skates, your thoughts will turn naturally to the clothes you will wear for your first appearance. Make no mistake about it; a smart costume on the ice is half the battle. If you are a man, you will probably decide to do your first skating in long trousers plus an ordinary coat or sweater, and that is all right. If you are a woman and an absolute beginner and expect to do a certain amount of rail clinging for a while, you will probably think you will be less conspicuous in a long skirt, a sort of modified street costume. There you are wrong.
For a woman the traditional costume is as set for the ice rink as it is for the tennis court or the ski slope. A long skirt will make any woman stand out like a sore thumb on any ice surface, just as a long black skirt would make her an object of special attention on any tennis court. So remember this when you buy your costume: if you want your first few wobbly strokes to go as unnoticed as possible, be sure to dress in the accepted mode. If you dress like a reasonably expert skater (whether you are or not), you’ll find that people are much too preoccupied with their own edges to pay any attention to yours.
The accepted style for skating skirts and dresses has a full circular, gored, or pleated skirt which flares from the hipline. Plenty of stores now have the most chic, correct, and practical costumes imaginable - and at very small cost. In fact it is because the stores are putting out such attractive and becoming figure skating outfits that lots of young girls are taking up the sport!
As for the rest of the costume, good sense and a certain amount of fashion should dictate. Sweaters with skirts are always good, but if you are going to an indoor rink, don’t make the mistake, as one of my friends did, of wearing a heavy sweater, a stocking cap, and fur-lined mitts. Most rinks are heated nowadays, so it is well to inquire first. On the other hand, trim windbreakers, parkas, and turtleneck sweaters are perfect for pond skating. Big hats are out of place on the ice. The closer fitting the cap, the trimmer the appearance. Streamlining is as suitable to the skating figure as it is to an automobile chassis.
Anything that doesn’t contribute to an impression of speed and freedom of movement is undesirable. That is why the bodices of skating dresses should be molded to the figure. That is why trunks should never be large and bulky - but, contrary-wise the too tight, too high little panty that some good skaters are now affecting is ugly, too. Trunks should as a general rule match the skirt and be as inconspicuous as possible. Excellent nylon tights are available at most stores, while wool and nylon tights may also be procured. The latter are fine for outdoor skating in cold climates.
